About Us

Proton Launch

Solaris Mobile Ltd is a next generation Mobile Satellite Service (“MSS”) operator engaged in enhancing mobile communications across Europe. In early 2009 the W2A satellite, carrying Solaris Mobile’s S-band payload, was launched from Baikonur in Kazakhstan on a Proton launch vehicle and in May 2009, Solaris Mobile was awarded the rights to 30MHz of paired MSS spectrum to operate hybrid satellite and terrestrial networks in all 27 EU member states. This is the EU’s first award of harmonised spectrum and will enable Solaris Mobile to offer Pan-European service coverage to our customers.

Solaris Mobile is focused on three key markets; Mobile TV, Digital Radio & Vehicular Services and the Public Safety Sector. The unique integration of satellite and terrestrial components operating as a single network and the unencumbered availability of paired spectrum in the 2GHz band provides for a powerful solution to meet the growing demands for mobility in the consumer and professional market sectors. Our hybrid network, combining satellite and terrestrial infrastructure, will provide a powerful and efficient way of delivering mobile services to people on the move in Europe. Solaris Mobile is based in Dublin, Ireland and is a Joint Venture between SES-Astra and Eutelsat.
